Ryan Darian

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts from Western Washington University. My expertise lies in crafting nuanced characters for performances. With extensive training and years of experience, I possess the skills to evoke a sense of mystery and suspense or convey transparency and freedom on stage or screen. Immersing myself in the rich inner world of a character is a source of joy for me, while executing precise movements and hitting my cues has become second nature due to my technical training.

My portfolio includes developing projects from concept to realization, encompassing both original scripts and classical works across various mediums. Additionally, I bring over a decade of experience as a guitarist, vocalist, and producer, having recently expanded my repertoire to include engineering, mixing, and mastering. My work can be listened to here:

Songwriting

Crafting a song is akin to surfing a wave. Initially, it may seem straightforward and achievable within a short span of time, possibly even hours. However, to extend the metaphor, while riding a wave might not pose a significant challenge for those familiar with the process, sustaining this effort continuously for hours each day can present its own set of difficulties. Everyday I hit the beach break and try to catch a big one.

performance

Maintaining a relaxed body, activating the core, reducing mental chatter, and focusing keenly on both sound and emotion consistently elicit optimal vocal performance, a principle that applies broadly to other vocalists as well. Emphasizing the primacy of physical presence over mental distractions is crucial, and the current conditions described significantly enhance the likelihood of achieving this state.

production

Modern music production is a fusion of technical engineering and artistic creativity, requiring the simultaneous engagement of both analytical and imaginative faculties. Through a meticulous workflow, I have honed my mixing skills to generate rapid and innovative ideas.

As a dedicated student of Jaycen Joshua, a 17-time Grammy Award-winning Mixing Engineer, I had the privilege of attending his Mixing Masterclass. During our intensive four-day studio sessions, he imparted his comprehensive mixing process and philosophy, leaving no detail unexplored.

philosophy

The objective is to create an environment that fosters a sense of safety, enabling individuals to take creative risks and enjoy the process of exploring new possibilities. This is often where the most compelling music originates. By relinquishing control within the intense environment of music creation, individuals can express themselves physically in ways that convey meaning beyond explicit comprehension by the mind.

Voice Over

I possess more than ten years of expertise in vocal performance and production.I received training in the Linklater Method, and I maintain the quality of my vocal technique by consistently engaging in singing practice and daily breathing exercises.

In the studio, I am well-versed in utilizing microphones such as the TLM103 and assume the role of my vocal engineer. My studio environment is carefully designed to minimize reflections during tracking sessions.

When it comes to voiceovers, I prioritize non-invasive techniques. My approach typically involves using a gate, dynamic room suppressor, a preamp, level riding, compression, eq, and tone shaping; all delicately tuned by ear.

Original Work

Writing

Praxis of Fire- Original Screenplay
Flint has made a new life among the indigenous population of an obscure south pacific island. Strict rules have forced him to abandon his historical success as a professor and chemist, but will he challenge authority when he can use his knowledge for the good of his tribe?

The Musician - Original Stage Play
The Manager just found out that Elton John is in the crowd of this open mic, and his new talent is about to take the stage. The Musician just discovered that the love of his life cheated on him, and does not want to take the stage.
This play, in three parts, explores the push and pull of life on the career of a musician and how someone can discover exorcism, awakening, and freedom through live music performance.
Featuring three original songs by Ryan Darian.

Producing

Detox-
A drug runner caught in the middle of a territorial dispute, risks his life to clean the slate. “Detox” is a story of metamorphosis, where Chase seizes an opportunity to achieve redemption and a second chance at life.

Have You Seen Me-
Leo is desperately searching for his missing girlfriend, but is offered an illegal delivery job, distracting him from finding her. His desire for quick cash sends him off on a journey that is interrupted by the courier who once had the same job, warning Leo of the deathly consequences. Leo ignores him in favor of the employer, but is soon confronted by his greatest fear: finding his missing girlfriend in the package he’s delivering.

Castability

-Ryan totally fits that part-

The caring friend:
He puts himself aside for others, that may be his greatest weakness. This character finds that prioritizing others has put his dreams on hold, now he must overcome this and take his life into his own hands. This will put lifelong relationships in jeopardy along with his already fleeting goals.

The long winded excitable:
He believes that the operative ingredient in making people like him is how smart he is, trial and error will reveal to this anxious nerd that naked honesty reigns over artifice and sentimentality.

Malicious Compliance:
This bullheaded asshole knows how to get on people's nerves. He takes great pleasure in making another person's life difficult, mostly because he has no power and a history of being treated poorly, but he would never let anyone know that.

Struggling Artist:
His naive nature and optimistic beginnings fall into animosity and resentment when lessons aren't learned in time. Will he find a path to illuminate his incessant ignorance?
